Beta Tested on OnePlus (Android 15) → iPhone (iOS 27).

The ChatShift window in Demo mode, with simulated phones. Left: the Android checklist — install Android tools, make a WhatsApp backup with a 64-digit key, turn on Developer options and USB debugging, connect, copy chats and media with a progress bar, then type the key. Middle: the Mac, showing progress. Right: the iPhone checklist — install WhatsApp, turn off Find My, connect and tap Trust, back up the iPhone. Then the confirmation sheet, the transfer with progress, a summary of messages, photos and groups moved, the after-transfer checklist and deleting the work folder.

Why ChatShift

Your iPhone is already set up

The official way to move WhatsApp from Android to iPhone works only while the iPhone is being set up, with Apple's Move to iOS app. If your iPhone is already in use, that means erasing it and starting over, or leaving your chat history behind. A WhatsApp backup on Google Drive can't be restored on an iPhone, and iCloud can't read an Android backup.

The official way

Erase it

  1. Erase the iPhone (factory reset)
  2. Set it up again from scratch
  3. Move to iOS, during setup only
  4. Re-install apps, sign in again

Anything that lives only on the iPhone is erased.

With ChatShift

Keep it

  1. Keep your iPhone as it is
  2. Connect the Android to your Mac
  3. Connect the iPhone
  4. Chats, media and groups are there

Move WhatsApp from Android to iPhone without a reset, any time after setup. Over USB, on your Mac; nothing uploaded.

Features

Every step, shown

A WhatsApp chat transfer Mac app that guides you through every step. The videos on this page are recorded from the app itself, in Demo mode with simulated phones.

01
Guidance

Step by step, for your phone

Every step opens with short instructions for your phone: Samsung, Pixel, Xiaomi, OnePlus, Huawei, Motorola. ChatShift ticks a step off as soon as it sees it done, and tells you when the phone is waiting for you to tap Allow.

  • Finds the Android tools by itself
  • Developer options and USB debugging, per manufacturer
  • “Show me how” on every step
02
Copy

Progress you can trust

Chats, photos, videos and voice notes are copied to your Mac over USB. You see what is being copied, how much is left and when it will be done.

  • Live speed, time elapsed and time left
  • Media optional, for a quick text-only move
  • Stop any time; nothing on the phone changes
03
Key

Your 64-digit key unlocks it

WhatsApp's end-to-end encrypted backup is opened on your Mac with the 64-digit key you created on the phone. The key is kept in memory only: never saved, never sent.

  • Typed in groups of four, counted as you go
  • A wrong key is caught at once
04
Safety copy

A safety copy first

Before anything is written, ChatShift makes an encrypted backup of your iPhone on the Mac. If something looks wrong afterwards, one click rolls WhatsApp back.

  • Find My, Trust and backup steps guided
  • Encrypted backup, kept on this Mac
  • One-click rollback
05
No reset

No reset: keep your iPhone data

Move WhatsApp chats to iPhone without a factory reset and without starting over. ChatShift adds your Android chats to WhatsApp on the iPhone you already use and merges them with the chats that are already there. Photos, apps and settings stay.

  • Original dates kept
  • Merged with existing chats and groups
  • Says what will happen before it starts
06
Groups and media

Media, photos, voice notes, groups

One-to-one and group chats move with their history and their files.

  • Messages
  • Photos
  • Videos
  • Voice notes
  • Documents
  • Stickers & GIFs
  • Locations
  • Shared contacts
  • Group chats

Original dates kept · merged with chats already on the iPhone · not moved: calls, reactions, polls, status, channels, view-once

07
Contacts · free

Contacts from Android to iPhone, free

Switch to Contacts at the top of the window. ChatShift reads the Android address book over USB and puts it on the iPhone with AirDrop, or adds it to your Mac's Contacts so iCloud syncs it. No backup, no restore: nothing on the iPhone is replaced.

  • Free, no licence needed
  • AirDrop, iCloud or a .vcf file
08
Privacy

Everything stays on your Mac

No account, no cloud. Your chats go phone → Mac → phone over a cable. When you are done, a short checklist finishes the iPhone and one click deletes the working files.

  • Nothing uploaded, no trackers
  • The only network request: activating your licence key
  • Work folder readable only by you
How it works

Three steps

How to transfer WhatsApp from Android to iPhone with a Mac and a USB cable.

  1. 01

    Connect the Android

ChatShift copies every chat and photo to your Mac and unlocks them with your 64-digit key.

  2. 02

    Connect the iPhone

It makes a safety copy, then adds your chats to WhatsApp. Nothing else is erased.

  3. 03

    Done

Open WhatsApp. Your chats are there, next to the ones you already had.

FAQ

Questions

Will my iPhone be erased?

No. WhatsApp's data is updated, and the iPhone's own data (contacts, messages, settings, home screen) is put back as it was in the safety copy made just before — so make the copy right before you transfer. Afterwards the iPhone shows a few setup screens, and some apps may need re-downloading; their data stays.

Can I transfer WhatsApp after iPhone setup?

Yes. Apple's Move to iOS app only moves WhatsApp while a new or reset iPhone is being set up. ChatShift works any time later, on the iPhone you already use, without a factory reset.

Is this official?

No, it's an independent, unofficial method. Keep your Android phone until you've checked your chats on the iPhone.

Is it finished?

ChatShift is in beta. So far it has been tested with a OnePlus on Android 15 and an iPhone on iOS 27. Other phones that run a current WhatsApp are expected to work; tell us if yours gives trouble.

What if something goes wrong?

ChatShift backs up the iPhone first. One click rolls WhatsApp back to how it was.

Do group chats move?

Yes. Group and one-to-one chats move with their history, photos and files.

What does “free to try” mean?

Download ChatShift and go through every step with your own phones: install the tools, copy and unlock your chats, back up the iPhone. You buy a licence key (€14.99 once during the beta; later €29.99) only for the transfer itself. Moving contacts is free.

What do I need?

A Mac with macOS 14 or later, a USB cable, the 64-digit backup key from WhatsApp on Android, and WhatsApp set up on the iPhone with the same number. Free disk space about the size of the iPhone's used storage (an external disk works). Find My is turned off during the transfer; the app tells you when. WhatsApp Business isn't supported.

Do I need Xcode, iTunes or anything else?

No Xcode and no iTunes: ChatShift talks to the iPhone through macOS itself. The only extra is Google's free Android platform tools, installed once. ChatShift's first step shows how and detects it automatically:

1. Open Terminal. 2. If you don't have Homebrew yet, install it from brew.sh. 3. Run brew install android-platform-tools.

No Terminal? Download "SDK Platform-Tools for Mac" from developer.android.com and put the folder in ~/Library/Android/sdk/.

Will it work with my older iPhone or Android?

Any iPhone and Android phone that run a current version of WhatsApp should work. ChatShift reads how WhatsApp stores chats on your own iPhone and adapts to it. It has been tested on iOS 27; tell us if your combination gives trouble.

Can it move my contacts too?

Yes, for free. Switch to Contacts at the top of the window: ChatShift reads the Android address book over USB and sends it to the iPhone with AirDrop (tap "Add All Contacts"), or adds it to your Mac's Contacts so iCloud syncs it to the iPhone. No backup and no restore — nothing on the iPhone is replaced. Contact photos don't move.

Is anything uploaded?

No. Your chats, media and contacts stay on your Mac, and one click deletes the working files when you're done. The only time the app goes online is to activate your licence key with Lemon Squeezy (it sends the key and your Mac's name). See the privacy policy.
